Learn more about Anton
Anton has made a significant impact in the rugby world as the Founding Director of the Western Province Rugby Academy (now WPIRI), where he helped build the Institute into the powerhouse that it is today. His passion for rugby has allowed him to establish numerous local and international relationships, helping to create some of today’s great rugby superstars.
Anton recently finished his season as the SWD Eagles Head Coach, where he experienced great success. He has also held several other impressive coaching positions, including Head Coach of the Bourgoin Jallieu in France, Seattle Seawolves Major League Rugby USA Head Coach, the Western Province 7s and U/21 Coach and the Vodacom Cup Coach!

Michael holds a Diploma in Business Management and a Diploma in Advanced Property Practice. Michael has served in various positions, including: Financial Advisor, Production Manager, Managing Director and Financial Brokerage.
His eXtensive involvement in rugby includes roles as the General Manager for Hamiltons Rugby Club and False Bay Rugby Club, 1st Team Manager at Villager RFC for 5 years, 1st Team Manager at Hamiltons RFC for 8 years, and U/20 A Rugby Manager. Additionally, Michael served as the Western Province 7’s Manager for 3 years and False Bay Rugby Club 1st Team Manager.

Jacquin is a rugby legend in the Western Cape with over a decade of prominent involvement in the sport. Jacquin, a talented centre, played Boland U/19 Currie Cup and represented the esteemed Maties rugby at both Young Guns and Varsity Cup levels. His skills and dedication earned him the title of Durbell Rugby Club Backline Player of the year in 2022, and last year, he proudly represented the Western Province Currie Cup team.
Beyond playing, Jacquin is a phenomenal coach. He has coached the Brackenfell High School 1st, 2nd Team, and 7s Strength and Conditioning coach. Jacquin’s intelligence matches his on-field talents. A graduate of Stellenbosch University, he holds a degree in BA Sport Science and a PGCE.

Matthew is a WPIRI alumnus, whose playing career has been truly inspirational. Not only did Matthew captain the WPIRI in 2016, but also earned the prestigious “Rugby Player of the Year” award that same year. Additionally, he secured the Hamiltons RFC “Junior Rugby Player of the Year” award.
Armed with a BA in Sport Science and an honours degree in Sport Science from the University of Stellenbosch, he graduated with top academic recognition. His passion for strength & conditioning blossomed during his studies, leading him to work as a Strength and Conditioning Assistant at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport. In 2022, Matthew returned to the same place his career started – the WPIRI – as the Junior Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Vincent is our WPIRI registered Biokineticist, and is also a HFPA Lecturer at the Stellenbosch campus. Vincent holds a BSc Sport Science degree from the University of Stellenbosch and BSc (Med)(Hons) degrees in Exercise Science and Biokinetics from the University of Cape Town. Notably, Vincent is a published first-author in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, with his article already garnering 10 citations.
Vincent’s dedication to research led him to collaborate with SA Rugby as a researcher, where he contributed to the BokSmart research team during the U/16 & U/18 youth tournaments in 2018 and 2019, focusing on injury surveillance. He also gained valuable experience as an intern biokineticist at Bishops Diocesan College and the prestigious Sport Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA).

Warren Petersen, a former pro in the rugby arena, began his journey at North-West University (Pukke). With a wealth of eXperience, he’s etched his mark as a coach, serving the Leopards, North-West University (Pukke), Stellenbosch University (Maties), and the formidable Durbell Rugby Club.
Warren was part of the Maties 1st team coaching staff who won the League in 2018. He won the League the following year, 2019, with Durbell Rugby Club.
Warren brings both brawn and brains to the game, holding a degree in BA Human Movement Science & Psychology, as well as a Diploma in Sport Science. Notably, his coaching has steered the careers of notable players, including the current Springbok sensation, Grant Williams.

Bolla Conradie is a name that resonates loudly in South African rugby history. A true legend, he earned his stripes as one of the greatest rugby players the nation has ever seen. Bolla’s remarkable career includes 20 caps for the Springboks from 2002 to 2008, a staggering 98 caps for Western Province, 80 caps for the Stormers, and 50 caps for Boland (where he also led as captain).
Bolla’s transition into coaching saw him lead UWC to victory in the Varsity Shield and Varsity Cup competitions for two consecutive years. His dual eXpertise in playing and coaching at the highest professional levels is a testament to his rugby talent, and proof that he knows what it takes to get to the top!

Ivan’s rugby journey began at Kylemore Rugby Club, where he transitioned from player to coach. With achievements spanning decades, including provincial colours for Boland Rugby Union in 1982 and representing the South African Rugby team from 1987 to 1992, Ivan has left an indelible mark. He was selected for the SA Rugby Development team’s tour of Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga in 1992, and continues to be a member of the South African Veterans team since 1995.
In coaching, Ivan’s impact has been significant. From his start at Kylemore Rugby Club as Head Coach in 1995 to his leadership roles at various clubs and teams, including Maties Women’s Team and Pniel Villagers. Ivan won the “Best Coach” award from Kylemore Rugby Club in 2022.

Raeez is a former professional rugby player, who represented SWD Rugby Union and Boland Rugby Union. He also competed in the Varsity Cup for the University of Johannesburg in 2015.
Raeez has achieved his Certificate in Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Management, a Law Enforcement Peace Officer qualification from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and an Advanced Certificate in Business Management in Risk from the University of Johannesburg. Raeez has served as a Forwards and Fitness Coach, Physical Education teacher for underprivileged schools, Western Province Rugby Union Youth Coordinator’s Assistant, and Junior Rugby Coach at Hamiltons SP RFC.

Nkosi brings a wealth of rugby eXperience as a professional player for renowned teams like the SWD Eagles, Griffons Rugby, Border Rugby, and EP Elephants. His rugby career includes participation in Junior and First Division Currie Cup as well as the Varsity Shield.
Beyond the rugby field, Nkosi is a well-rounded individual with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Diploma in Fine Arts. His professional background includes serving as a Field Operation Officer at Statistics South Africa and working as an Educator Assistant in the Department of Education.

Herschelle is a one-in-a-million individual with a profound passion for helping others. With over 10 years of industry eXperience, he eXcels as a Life Skills Coach for our UXi student-athletes. Herschelle’s boundless positivity and vibrant energy make him a joy to be around, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he meets.
As a passionate World Rugby Level 2 qualified coach, Herschelle serves as the Technical Director of Caledon Rugby Club and has made a positive impact during his coaching journey at NTK. In the broadcasting realm, Herschelle started as a radio presenter and producer at a local radio station, and now holds key roles at “Club Sports Live” as the Executive Producer, Show Director, and daily commentator and anchor. His enthusiasm for delivering in-depth sports analysis on the radio has won the hearts of sports enthusiasts.

Charissa is a highly qualified professional Biokineticist with a BA in Sports Recreation and Exercise Science and a BA Honours in Biokinetics from the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
She has taken on various roles in her career, including Wellness Intern for the UWC Cricket wellness program, Intern Biokineticist at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa, and Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Western Province Cricket semi-professional team. She also shared her expertise as a Kinesiology and Dance Tutor at UWC and served as the Director of the Kids Program at Lansdown Holiday Club.

Wikus, with five years of experience in the Sport Science field, holds a profound understanding of the importance of performance. Wikus holds a BA Degree in Sport Science, a BSc Honours Degree in Sport Science (Performance Sport), and has recently completed his Masters Degree in Sport Science, all from the University of Stellenbosch.
Wikus has lectured anatomy and physiology at the university level and possesses eXpertise in coaching, strength and conditioning, video analysis, and GPS monitoring. Wikus’ academic achievements and practical eXperience, including work as a performance analyst and sport videographer, have uniquely prepared him for his role in our high-performance team.

Monty DuMond, a former professional rugby player, boasts an impressive career that includes representing the Leopards Rugby Union team during school at the prestigious Craven Week, as well as being selected for the U/19 Springbok squad in 2001. In his Senior career Monty played for the Sharks at Currie Cup level, earning 55 caps. He also played for the Leopards, Griquas, Eastern Province Kings and Boland Cavaliers.
His talents extended internationally, contributing to European teams like Overmach Parma, Aurillac, and Racing Métro 92. Beyond playing, Monty has coached various teams, including Hamiltons Rugby Club, UniMil, Boland, and the Rhinos Rugby California U/18 team, showcasing his eXpertise both on and off the field.
