As the WP Rugby Academy brand continues to grow, it’s incredible to see the width of the net that has been cast, creating opportunities for youngsters locally and abroad.
Our Director of Rugby, Anton Moolman, invited 2017 graduate Dominic Coetzer, to chat to the boys before his departure to join premiership giants Gloucester for the 2018/19 season.
Having graduated in the Southern Suburbs from Wynberg Boys High School, Dom pursued his dream at the WPRA. Being selected for WP u19 at Flyhalf in the Currie Cup, Dom also had the opportunity to showcase his talents in fixtures for the WPRA against Georgia u20, SA Academy u20 and France u19.
These performances did not go unnoticed and led to the signing of his first professional contract with Gloucester Academy. He impressed former Irish pivot and current Gloucester CEO, David Humphreys, culminating in this fantastic opportunity for him to showcase his talent in the English premiership.
Joining Dominic will be 2018 student and Selborne College (Border Craven Week) Loose Head Luke Dalbock. Luke will be undertaking a 2 month trial, 1st July -31st August, after his standout performances for the WPRA over the past 5 months.
The WPRA is all about creating depth for WP Rugby but also for creating pathways for youngsters to pursue and realise their dreams. We will be watching their progress closely as they look to take the next step in their professional careers.
